Today and tomorrow Foreign Minister Urmas Paet will participate in an informal Gymnich meeting of the European Union foreign ministers in Córdoba, Spain.
The foreign ministers will discuss issues related to the creation of the European External Action Service. Paet stated that the creation of the union’s foreign service is a pressing matter because it will help ensure that the EU’s foreign policy is more uniformly implemented.
They also discussed the situation in the Western Balkans and the European Union’s relations with China, India and Brazil.
Another topic on the agenda for the meeting of the European Union foreign policy leaders is discussing the situation in the Middle East, focusing on the EU’s roll in advancing the peace process. Paet stated that we must continue making an international effort and finding opportunities to renew the Middle East peace negotiations. “Regulating the Israel-Palestine conflict must be based on a two-state solution,” said Paet.
Gymnich is an informal meeting of the foreign ministers of the European Union which gets its name from the Gymnich castle near Bonn, where the first meeting of its kind took place.
