On 16 July, girls’ choir Ellerhein directed by Mrs Tiia-Ester Loitme will introduce the highlights of Estonian choral music to Istanbul. Ellerhein who is in Turkey for an international youth festival, will perform in Aya Irini church-museum, the hall that saw the world premier of Arvo Pärt’s new work „Adam’s Lament” last month.
The concert, organised jointly by the Estonian Embassy and Istanbul 2010 Agency, will feature the works of Arvo Pärt, Veljo Tormis and Cyrillus Kreek, as well as traditional Turkish music and choral music from around the world. The concert starts at 20 pm, entrance is free.
Girls’ choir Ellerhein was founded by Prof Heino Kaljuste in 1951. From 1989 the chief conductor of the choir has been Mrs Tiia-Ester Loitme. The choir has been praised for their unique, clear sound and has won numerous awards both at home and abroad. The choirmaster of Ellerhein is Ülle Sander, concertmasters are Katrin Kuldjärv and Piret Habak and the girls’ vocal pedagogue is Mare Jõgeva. This is the choir’s second trip to Turkey - in 2005 they participated in the International Ankara Choir Competition and won the 1st prize in the category of male and female choirs, and 2nd prize in the folklore category.
