Young Estonian designers exhibition opened at Ministry of Foreign Affairs

30.08.2010

No. 257-E

Minister of Foreign Affairs Urmas Paet and Academy of Arts rector Signe Kivi opened the SÄSI young designers exhibition at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Paet said that new design by younger designers is an increasingly important part of the Estonian creative industries sector and already enjoys strong international potential. "The Foreign Ministry can contribute to popularizing Estonian design. Young designers have partners in the form of economic and cultural affairs diplomats in embassies who can provide advice and help establish foreign contacts,“ said Paet.

The SÄSI exhibition will introduce the nominees and winners of the Young Estonian Designer award, the SÄSI 2010. This year's award went to textile designer Karin Luuk. Smaller SÄSI awards went to ceramic artist Raili Keivi and the product designer duo of Sven Sellik and Pent Talvet.

The award is given to young Estonian designers for outstanding work in product design in the last three years. The competition was initiated in 2005 by MTÜ Sina, Mina ja Keegi. For its first three years, the competition were held in cooperation with the Academy of Arts, and in 2010 the partner is the Estonian Design Centre.
